Design Studio ChartsPLUS: Dual Axes/Opposite Value Axes
We have already talked about the myriad uses of the Combination Chart option present in ChartsPLUS. In this blog we will further delve into Combination Charts and their synergy with other ChartsPLUS features to create advanced visualizations for your business needs.
Please refer to the Video Guide going through the steps to create a Combination Chart here:
Add a ChartsPLUS 2.2 chart to the Layout Editor, and then assign a Data Source to the Chart. (In this situation we used a Custom Data Source>> Bring Your Own Data)
Clicking on the Data Source and opening up the Additional Properties panel shows the data that populates our chart, as represented below. (Note: The Key Figure Index here represents the column number from which our Key Figures/Measures begin. Here it is set to ‘1’ representing Column 2, Sales.)
After clicking on the Chart and navigating to Additional Properties, click on the Chart Selection tab and from the dropdown select Wizards>> Combination Chart.
In the Combo Chart popup set the Quantity measure on the Secondary Axis as shown. Click Apply.
CONFIGURING THE VALUE AXES
Under Config>>Axes>>Value Axes select the Primary Axis and in General properties set the Maximum to 200.
Similarly, select the Secondary Axis and under General properties set the Maximum to 50. Also check the Reversed checkbox (Note: This ensures that the Secondary Axis is reversed, making the display of the Quantity graph upside down.)
CONFIGURING THE GRAPHS
Under Config>>Graphing>>Graphs select the Sales graph. Under General properties toggle OFF the Clustered property. Also, toggle ON the Show Value Labels property.
Under Labels set the Label Position to Top.
Similarly select the Quantity graph. Under GENERAL properties toggle ON the Show Value Labels checkbox. Under Labels set the Label Position to Bottom.
The application appears in the Layout as shown:
ADDING AND CONFIGURING A GUIDE COMPONENT
We have already learned a bit about Guides in ChartsPLUS in an earlier blog. In this blog we will configure a Guide component to highlight the Produce with lowest Sales.
Under CONFIG>>Axes>>Guide click on the Add New Guide option to add a new Guide to the application. Under GENERAL properties set the Fill Alpha to 0%. Set both the Category and …To Category option to the Static Value “Produce Kiwis”. Check the Expand checkbox (Note: This ensures the Guide lines encompass the whole Category axis points selected.)
Under LINE properties set the Line Thickness to 2 and Dash Length to 3.
Executing the application shows the entirety of the changes we’ve made to it:
